Golden Stone

On my ship, the Golden Stone,
wheeling through the stars.
Headed for the heart of an elliptical galaxy in the constellation Hydra,
headlong into mystery
and heavy seed nuclei.

You say it's too hot--
and I say just somewhere around 6×10^9 and 8×10^9 K.
Heavy seed nuclei are THICK,
made from free neutrons
and gravity,
ejected from the re-expanded core of a core-collapse supernova.

Binary neutron star merger!
We surf the waves.
Spinning, whirling,
still descending,
like a spiral sea
unending.

Got no time to undergo
radioactive decay.
The neutron drip line drips
the heaviest of metals,
synthesizing isotopes
in a succession of
rapid
neutron
captures.

Hey, it's me. DJ Leopold Gremlin, of Leopold and the Metalloids. I spin the cold golden wax that keeps things super cool on the Golden Stone. And by super cool I mean SUPER HEAVY!!!

You can hear the metal I spin in every hall and toilet stall on the Golden Stone, mining the heavy riffs. I create the metal bridge that rocks us all on this airship ride called Life.

Sure, I've played the Palladium, the Germanium†, and the Dysprosium. I've gone multi-platinum, been labeled pyrophoric, and frequently reach a +8 oxidation state. And though I may be criticized for my occasional volatility and extreme toxicity, it's all in service of just one thing.
