Some people think my line of work is glamorous. I guess it's true there's a kind of romance to it. Getting put up in exotic locales is a perk of being at the top of my game. I've had my share of dumpy assignments, have no doubt. And--in terms getting the mission accomplished--you get a fair amount of independence.

But a fundamental part of the job is you can't share it with anybody. Sec-ops. Can't talk to anybody about it while you're doing it, and can't tell anybody after. That gives the higher ups plausible deniability, and keeps everybody else from becoming a target.

And if you break that rule, nobody forgives you. Whether they're on your side or not.

Ah, here's my stop.

WHOOOSH the doors on the vacuum train slide open, and she's standing right there.

Got a delivery today. My new assignment. It was encoded in a package of seemingly inconsequential items: a hairbrush, a tin of Wandering Moonsausage, two rolls of invisible tape, the most recent issue of an Outer Rim fashion magazine, a zero-G water bottle, a swimsuit (not my size), a six pack of mind accelerant chewing gum, disposable face cleansing pads, and a universal adapter.

There's a code you learn early on in your training that teaches you how to decode a story made up of any random assortment of consumer products.

Look's like I've got an errand tomorrow. Starting with the 5am vacuum train.

Remaining low key at the safehouse. Groceries delivered once a week, and takeout delivered on Friday nights. The exercise room look has floor to ceiling window view of the southwest arc of the Outer Rim, and you can lose yourself watching the traffic from the pedabike. There's a zero-g pool that's shared between all the units in this pod of the OLS but haven't received OK to go try it out yet.

The new safehouse is a bit odd. Mid-century orbital living structure with a posh address in the inner Outer Rim --ㄣᄅㄥ6Ɛㄣᄅ, 8ގㄥގ60ㄣ0ㄣ. It's got a hi-fi and sisal carpet and floor to ceiling windows, but something about it is a bit off. Nice place like this and then skimp on the furniture? What a shame. Former owner couldn't wait to get it off her hands. Some people have no taste.

In any case, it will suit our needs just fine. And a knockout view of the Wandering Moons to boot.

This furniture gives me a disturbing feeling.

I don't know whether to throw up or accept it as some nouvelle ironic chic.

Everyone looked monstrous at my party. Disgusting, disturbing creatures. They had a good time, but I'm just not sure that's the kind of party I want to have.

@Rebus Wilson can you remind me of the return policy? There was only the one party.

Yes I've been in contact with Zephyr Air about the delivery of a new sectionette to my orbital living structure here on the Outer Rim. It's a mid-century modern orbital living structure with a hi-fi and sisal carpet and floor to ceiling windows and a view of the wandering moons. But I need a zippy new sectionette to make it complete!

They referred me to this number after selecting my sectionette from the catalog.

Hi. Before we talk any further I need to get this stuff lifted up. Could you sign here, here here and here. Just some formal paperwork, you know, consenting to having us carry this stuff, paying us, agreeing to be...'disposed of' if anything unusual happens involving the furniture. Normal stuff.
